CNVP North Macedonia successfully held its first 4Returns Concept workshop
CNVP North Macedonia successfully held its first workshop within the framework of the 4Returns Concept with stakeholders from the Shar Mountain micro-region, an innovative approach focused on restoring degraded landscapes and promoting sustainable development.
As part of this initiative, the first workshop with stakeholders from the Shar Mountain micro-region was held today. The event brought together representatives of local small businesses, civil society organizations, shepherds, farmers, mountaineering clubs, tour operators, owners of restaurants and mountain lodges, beekeepers, cultural event organizers, as well as representatives from Shar Mountain National Park and the Municipality of Tetovo. All participants gathered with a shared goal: to contribute ideas and proposals for a more sustainable and prosperous future for the region.
The workshop began with a welcome address by the Director of CNVP North Macedonia, Mr. Nehat Ramadani, who highlighted the holistic nature of the concept and its significance for the Shar Mountain region. This was followed by a presentation from the CNVP project team, introducing the 4Returns Concept and its practical application in the restoration of degraded landscapes. An interactive discussion then took place, during which participants actively shared their experiences and perspectives.
Special focus was placed on the current situation in the micro-region, which includes the villages of Shipkovica, Veshala, Vece, Brodec, and Bozovce. The discussion covered multiple dimensions—social, economic, environmental, and inspirational. Through four thematic sessions and structured questionnaires, participants explored key challenges such as climate change, migration, and limited development opportunities, as well as the ways they have addressed these issues so far.
The discussion also highlighted sources of motivation and inspiration that encourage people to remain in the region and actively engage in its restoration. Participants shared valuable knowledge and experience related to biodiversity conservation, soil health, water quality, sustainable use of natural resources, and traditional agricultural practices.
This workshop provided the project team with deeper insight into the local context and community needs, offering clear guidance for future actions aimed at restoring degraded landscapes and supporting long-term sustainable development in the Shar Mountain region.
This workshop was held within the framework of the project “Protecting Unique Landscapes & Species in Albania and North Macedonia,” implemented by CNVP North Macedonia and CNVP Albania, and financially supported by PONT.
