A new milestone for renewable energy in Kosovo was made today with the new biomass heating system with wood chips at the public utility company “Higjiena” in Deçan. This is an important step toward renewable energy use at the local level.

This initiative was implemented through a partnership between CNVP Kosovo, the Municipality of Deçan, and utility company “Higjiena”, with technical support from Adetex.

It is the first biomass-based heating system of its kind in the municipality, serving as a practical and environmentally friendly model of heating solutions.

Alongside the heating system, a wood chipper has been installed to process biomass from green belts and other areas, supported by a dedicated storage facility to ensure efficient handling and use of the wood chips.

This initiative is part of the SUNREED project, which aims to promote the use of biomass as a renewable energy source, support the development of sustainable biomass market systems, and assist municipalities and businesses in transitioning to cleaner and more efficient heating alternatives.

The SUNREED project is funded by the Embassy of Sweden in Kosovo (Sida) and implemented by CNVP Kosovo.
