Strengthening Kosovo–Sweden Cooperation in Bioenergy
CNVP Kosovo convened key stakeholders from Kosovo and Sweden (Nordic countries) in Stockholm for a high-level workshop on Investment and Partnership Opportunities in the Bioenergy Sector.
The event held on April 15, 2026 brought together public institutions, private sector representatives, and international partners to advance Kosovo’s wood biomass sector as a sustainable energy solution and to explore concrete opportunities for investment and cooperation.
Organized under the SUNREED project and supported by the Embassy of Sweden in Prishtina (Sida), the workshop was held with the special support of the Embassy of the Republic of Kosovo in Stockholm and in partnership with Bioenergy International.
The workshop opened with remarks from Her Excellency Ambassador Shkëndije Geci Sherifi, who highlighted the importance of strengthening Kosovo–Sweden cooperation and advancing a shared green energy future.
In his opening remarks, Xhevat Lushi, Country Director of CNVP Kosovo, emphasized the purpose of the event and the importance of collaboration in unlocking the sector’s potential:
“Our aim is simple: to create space for dialogue, explore partnership and investment opportunities — from biomass production and supply, to district heating systems, to advanced technologies across the wood biomass value chain.” … “Development of such a sector cannot happen in isolation. It requires collaboration, trust, and long-term engagement between public and private actors.”
The event also featured contributions from Dorota Natucka-Persson of Bioenergy International, who, together with Mr. Lushi, framed the discussions within the broader regional and international bioenergy context.
Participants viewed video messages from Minister of Economy Artane Rizvanolli and Minister of Industry, Entrepreneurship and Trade Mimoza Kusari-Lila, reaffirming strong institutional commitment to advancing Kosovo’s green transition and international cooperation.
Throughout the day, discussions focused on strengthening the biomass value chain, advancing investment opportunities, and fostering partnerships between Kosovar and Nordic stakeholders.
Key institutional presentations provided insights into Kosovo’s energy and forestry sectors, as well as its investment landscape:
- Leonita Shabani Mullarama (Ministry of Economy) presented Kosovo’s energy sector perspectives and transition priorities
- Menderes Ibra (Kosovo Forestry Agency) addressed forest regulation and policy frameworks
- Egzon Tahirukaj (CNVP Kosovo) presented the Wood Biomass Roadmap and feasibility studies for municipalities
- Kreshnik Thaqi (KIESA) highlighted investment opportunities and support mechanisms
Swedish and Nordic companies shared their expertise and practical experience, engaging in meaningful discussions with Kosovar counterparts on future collaboration.
The workshop also welcomed Blerta Krenzi, Mayor of Avesta Municipality, further highlighting the strong and growing ties between Kosovo and Sweden.
In his closing remarks, Mr. Lushi reinforced the tangible progress already made and the opportunities ahead:
“These are not just studies — they are a foundation for real investment, real projects, and real partnerships.”
He also extended an open invitation to international partners:
“Kosovo’s biomass sector is a market with real and growing opportunities. We warmly invite you to explore concrete cooperation and visit Kosovo to see these opportunities on the ground.”
Looking ahead, he emphasized the importance of continuity and concrete next steps:
“We are not here only to talk — we are here to build something together.”
CNVP Kosovo will organize a dedicated B2B event for the biomass sector in Kosovo in the coming months with all interested partners who would like to participate, with the aim of further developing partnerships and advancing toward concrete investments.
The discussions and connections established in Stockholm will be further developed through this upcoming B2B event in Kosovo, aimed at deepening partnerships and advancing toward implementation.
CNVP Kosovo remains committed to supporting this process and fostering long-term partnerships that contribute to sustainable economic development and the green transition.
