CNVP Launches PULSE
CNVP has launched a new regional project, PULSE – Protecting Unique Landscapes & Species, aimed at conserving biodiversity while improving livelihoods in protected mountain areas of Albania and North Macedonia. The project will run for 36 months (2026–2029) and is implemented by CNVP Albania and CNVP Skopje, with funding from the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT).
PULSE builds on the experience of CNVP’s previous PONT-funded initiative (2022–2025) and responds to growing environmental and socio-economic pressures in protected areas. In Albania, the project focuses on selected micro-regions within the Albanian Alps National Park and Korab–Koritnik Nature Park, while in North Macedonia activities will take place in Shar Mountain National Park. These areas are rich in biodiversity but face challenges such as limited income opportunities, unsustainable resource use, and weak local participation in management.
The project aims to strengthen biodiversity and habitat conservation while supporting sustainable, nature-based livelihoods. PULSE works closely with local communities, farmers, women and youth groups, tourism operators, small businesses, civil society organizations, schools, and protected area authorities. Key activities include habitat restoration, sustainable use of non-timber forest products, development of nature-based tourism, small grants for local initiatives, and continuous training and mentoring. Through this approach, PULSE seeks to improve conservation outcomes, increase local incomes, and promote stronger, more inclusive governance of protected areas.
