World Soil Day: Why Healthy Soil Matters for Our Forests and Communities

Soil is one of the most overlooked natural resources, yet everything we depend on starts from it. Healthy soil supports forests, grows our food, stores carbon, filters water, and protects biodiversity. When soil is degraded, entire ecosystems lose their balance and the communities living closest to nature feel the impact first.

This year, on World Soil Day, CNVP highlights the importance of protecting and restoring soil through the work we carry out across the region. Our forestry, rural development, and community-based initiatives all rely on the same foundation: strong, healthy land that can sustain life for the long term.

Through sustainable forest management, improved land-use practices, selective thinning, MAPs sector support, and collaboration with local communities, we help landscapes stay productive and resilient. These efforts ensure that forests regenerate naturally, erosion is reduced, and rural households continue to benefit from the resources they depend on.

Healthy soil is not just an environmental issue but it’s a livelihood issue. It’s about giving future generations the same opportunity to grow, live, and thrive.

Today is a reminder that protecting the ground beneath us is protecting our future.

Happy World Soil Day from CNVP Foundation.
