Chestnuts and Rapeseed: Supporting Women Farmers and Bee Habitats
We are excited to share another milestone in our partnership with Ardita Kastrati B.I., a woman-led beekeeping and honey production in Peja. This phase focuses on autumn planting initiatives that directly support women farmers as well as the bee sector.
In November, 340 chestnut seedlings were planted across 2 hectares on 4 parcels managed by six women farmers. Three of the parcels are in Decan and one is in Istog. These previously uncultivated parcels were carefully cleared, tilled, and prepared by the women before planting.
In October, 5 hectares of rapeseed were planted in 3 parcels in Peja managed by three women farmers. These flowering plants will provide forage for bees, supporting healthier colonies and improving honey production.
These planting initiatives not only expand cultivated surfaces but also provide direct financial support to women farmers, empowering them and their families. At the same time, they create richer habitats for bees, contributing to stronger colonies and higher honey yields.
CNVP through its SUNREED project, funded by the Embassy of Sweden in Pristina (Sida), is pleased to support women and beekeeping production like Ardita and the group of women farmers, recognizing their role in income generation for their communities and market development.
