Empowering Rural Women Across the Western Balkans

On the occasion of the International Day of Rural Women, CNVP Foundation proudly celebrates the dedication, resilience, and leadership of women living in rural areas across the Western Balkans, including Albania, North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Montenegro. These women are at the heart of rural development, family well-being, and environmental protection. Through CNVP’s projects, they are building stronger communities, sustainable businesses, and a greener future for all.
In Albania, CNVP’s initiatives have helped rural women take leading roles in their families and communities. Through the LED Project, women have transformed their work with Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs) from simple collection into professional and profitable businesses. With training and support, they have learned how to grow, dry, and process plants, improving product quality and market access. Many women now manage small enterprises that increase family income and create local jobs.
Under the PONT Project, women have invested in sustainable family businesses in the Albanian Alps, Prespa and Korça regions, combining nature protection with income generation.
Meanwhile, the IFM Project has provided new job opportunities for rural women across the Drin River Basin in Albania, North Macedonia, Kosovo, and Montenegro helping them become active contributors to their communities’ economies and environmental care.
In North Macedonia, CNVP highlights the inspiring work of rural women’s associations that promote sustainability, cultural traditions, and nature protection. The Rural Women of Prespa association, supported by CNVP, cultivates mountain tea and integrates it into traditional Prespa recipes, preserving local heritage while promoting ecological awareness. Similarly, the Association of Women Farmers “Moja Farma” has successfully cultivated mountain tea (Sideritis scardica) in the Shar Mountain region. Their efforts showcase innovation, women’s entrepreneurship, and a strong commitment to nature conservation.
In Kosovo, CNVP marks the International Day of Rural Women with activities that honor women’s strength and entrepreneurship. Together with EcoKos Women and other partners, CNVP supported an exhibition in downtown Prishtina where rural women showcased products made from MAPs and Non-Wood Forest Products (NWFPs). Many of these women are family breadwinners and community leaders. A Field Day held at the Ventos Center in Moistir, Istog, also presented practical solutions for sustainable agriculture such as agrotextile and drip irrigation systems, helping women farmers apply innovation in their daily work.
Across all countries, CNVP Foundation continues to empower rural women to lead, innovate, and inspire change, building a sustainable and inclusive future where their voices and contributions are valued and recognized.
