LED Conference Highlights Progress in Albania’s MAPs Sector

On 3 October 2025, CNVP Albania, with the support of the Embassy of Sweden in Tirana, organized the National Conference of the Local Economic Development (LED) Project in Tirana.
The conference was held under the theme “Improving MAPs quality and quantity for increased incomes and sustainable environment.”

The event gathered representatives from government institutions, academia, the private sector, and local communities to discuss the progress, results, and lessons learned from the LED Project, which supports the development of the Medicinal and Aromatic Plants (MAPs) sector in Albania.

During the opening session, Ms. Anila Aliaj, Country Director of CNVP Albania, welcomed the participants and highlighted the project’s achievements in improving production standards, strengthening local businesses, and promoting sustainable use of natural resources. Representatives from the Embassy of Sweden and the MAPs sectoralso delivered welcome speeches, emphasizing the importance of partnership for sustainable rural development.

The conference continued with a presentation on the project’s key results and a short video prepared by CNVP Albania, followed by a panel discussion on “The future of the MAPs sector in Albania – opportunities and challenges in the coming years.”
Panelists from the Ministry of Environment, National Forest Agency, AZHBR, Agriculture University of Tirana, and representatives of MAPs associations, exporters, and producers shared their perspectives and experiences.

The discussions focused on ways to strengthen the MAPs value chain, ensure higher quality standards, and support rural communities that depend on this important sector for their livelihoods.

The event closed with remarks from CNVP Albania, reaffirming their commitment to continue supporting local development and environmental sustainability in Albania.  

The LED Project, implemented by CNVP Albania and supported by the Government of Sweden, aims to improve economic opportunities in rural areas by promoting sustainable management of natural resources and increasing the competitiveness of the MAPs sector.
