Yesterday, our team visited our partner Bio Alta, a small family business in Kamenica that processes wild apples and medicinal plants into natural, high-quality vinegars. The visit was part of our ongoing support through the SUNREED project, funded by the Embassy of Sweden in Prishtina.

Since receiving new production equipment last year, business has expanded significantly. Led by Kadrije Mustafa, BioAlta has grown from selling in just 3 local stores to now having over 50 sales points across Kosovo. The investment in modern processing equipment has improved efficiency and product quality. This year alone, 3,600 liters of vinegar have been produced and sold - bringing Bio Alta close to its goal of 4,000 liters for the season.

Their product line includes apple cider vinegar, garlic vinegar, and a unique nettle vinegar, which is only produced by Bio Alta in Kosovo and is gaining popularity due to its health benefits.

During our visit, Kadrije shared:
“With the new equipment, production has become much easier and faster. The quality of our vinegar has improved, and customers are noticing the difference. It feels good to see our effort paying off.”

Bio Alta has also begun exploring small-scale exports to North Macedonia, with future plans to meet ISO certification requirements.

We’re pleased to see steady progress and continued dedication from Kadrije and her family. Bio Alta is an example of how local producers can grow with the right support and commitment.
