Success Story: How the LED Project Helped GBE Herbs Grow Local, Think Global
In Albania’s herbal trade sector, GBE Herbs stands out not just for its quality products, but for the way it has grown through sustainable partnerships and local empowerment. One of the key drivers behind this success has been the LED Project (Local Economic Development), implemented by CNVP Albania and funded by the Swedish Government.
GBE Herbs is a family-run business with decades of experience in collecting, processing, and exporting medicinal and aromatic plants. With roots in the Kukës region and operations now based in Tirana, the company has built a strong reputation for organic and chemical-free products, both in Albania and abroad.
Through the LED Project, GBE Herbs received targeted support to improve several areas of its operation: from product quality and packaging to branding and access to new markets. More importantly, the project strengthened the company’s capacity to apply sustainable harvesting practices and build stronger links with local plant collectors in rural areas.
“The partnership with CNVP through the LED Project was a turning point,” said the company’s owner in an interview. “It helped us modernize, expand our reach, and grow responsibly, without losing connection to our community and the environment.”
Today, GBE Herbs continues to grow, proving that small businesses in rural areas can succeed with the right support, a clear vision, and a strong commitment to sustainability.
This is one of many success stories that show how the LED Project is creating real impact on the ground, by helping local businesses thrive, boosting rural economies, and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources.
