Zerqan Green Road: Building Bridges for Nature and People

The Forest and Pasture Users Association of Zerqan, with the support of CNVP Foundation and the Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust (PONT), is implementing the project “Zerqan Green Road: Creating Ecological Corridors and Improving Ecosystems for a Sustainable Environment.”
As part of this project, a small but important bridge has been built to help wild animals move safely through the area. This action is part of a wider effort to create ecological corridors, which are areas of land that connect forests and natural spaces. These corridors help protect wildlife and improve the health of the environment.
Helping Wildlife Move Safely
The bridge allows wild animals to travel between different parts of the forest without danger. Many animals need to move to find food, shelter, or to reproduce. Without safe passages, they face risks like getting hurt or losing their way. This new bridge removes those barriers.
Protecting Biodiversity
When animals can move freely, they can meet other groups and reproduce. This keeps animal populations strong and healthy, which is important for protecting biodiversity—the variety of life in nature.
Responding to Climate Change
Climate change is forcing many species to move to new areas where the weather and food conditions are better. Ecological corridors with bridges help animals adapt by giving them space to move naturally.
Restoring Balance to Nature
The goal of the project is to restore balance in the natural environment. By connecting forests and pastures, the bridge supports the natural flow of life. It helps plants and animals return to areas where they were lost.
Involving the Local Community
The “Zerqan Green Road” project also works with local people. It includes training and awareness activities that teach the importance of ecological corridors and sustainable land use. This helps create a stronger connection between the community and nature.
This project is implemented under the CNVP Albania and Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust - PONT partnership, with the goal of promoting sustainable use of forests and pastures and protecting biodiversity in the Western Balkans.
