CNVP Office in Montenegro held recently a training session on entrepreneurship and starting small businesses brought valuable lessons to local participants, under the IFM project’s Gender Action Plan. The event combined a lecture on business fundamentals with a field visit to the “Bećović” medicinal herb nursery, owned and managed by a successful woman entrepreneur.

The morning lecture covered key steps for launching a small business. Trainers explained how to develop a simple business plan, identify customers, manage costs, and set realistic goals. They used clear examples and encouraged questions at every step. Participants learned that building a business means careful planning, consistent effort, and adapting to new challenges.

In the afternoon, the group visited the “Bećović” nursery in Dinoša. There, the owner shared her experience of growing and selling medicinal herbs. Participants observed planting techniques, greenhouse care, and harvesting methods. They saw how traditional knowledge about herbs can combine with modern practices—for example, using simple record-keeping to track growth and costs. The visit showed how theory connects to real work in the field.

Feedback from attendees was positive. One participant said the visit helped her understand the daily tasks and skills needed to run such a business. Others noted that seeing a working example gave them confidence to start small, test ideas, and learn by doing. The practical tips on soil preparation, watering routines, and packaging made the concept of a herb-based business feel achievable.

Organizers highlighted that this training aligns with the Gender Action Plan’s goal to support women in entrepreneurship. By offering both theory and hands-on experience, the event aimed to reduce barriers and inspire participants to take concrete steps. The visit to “Bećović” illustrated how passion for local resources can turn into a viable small enterprise.

The IFM project team thanks the “Bećović” nursery for hosting the group and sharing insights. Plans are underway for follow-up support, including mentoring sessions and peer networking. Participants are encouraged to apply what they learned, start pilot projects, and continue learning from each other. This training represents a step forward in empowering women to build sustainable businesses rooted in local knowledge and innovation.

This activity is part of “Integrated Forest Management Along The Drin River Basin” funded by Austrian Development Cooperation, initiated by ICEP - Association for Global Development and implemented by CNVP Foundation.
