CNVP North Macedonia is implemented 3 years project ‘’ Rural Women for Sustainable Development of Prespa’’ committed to support local NTFP’s, Prespa tea collectors, in the process of increasing their capacities for responding to the EU quality and safety standards and promote quality banded local products on the markets.

The Prespa region is rich in biodiversity and natural resources, including valuable non-timber forest products (NTFPs) such as mountain tea. At the same time, rural communities—especially women—face limited economic opportunities and market access.

Sustainable use of NTFPs presents a strong opportunity to link conservation with local economic development. However, local collectors require improved capacities to meet EU quality and safety standards and to effectively position their products in the market.

Project duration: June 2024 – May 2027

Funding: Prespa Ohrid Nature Trust

General objective of the project:

The project's general objective is to contribute to preserving biodiversity and ecosystem integrity along with enhancing women’s role contributing to local economy through sustainable use of the NTFPs in the WPA (Wider Prespa Area).

Specific objectives of the project:

  • Prespa mountain tea plantation extended, contributing to the socio-economic benefits of the region of Prespa.
  • Promotional activities and visibility of RWoP and NTFPs is increased.
  • RWoP has increased its capacities and serves as a role model dealing with socio-economic activities in full harmony with nature.
  • CNVP provides long-term support and sustainability to local actors in WPA.

The primary beneficiary target group is the organization Rural Women of Prespa (RWoP), which gathers more than twenty women. This is a rare and unique organization active in the region of Prespa, with a formal structure composed only of women.
