Given that the balance of wood biomass in Albania is negative, CNVP has been exploring the potential for its expansion using fast-growing tree species.

CNVP Albania has supported the construction by a Local Government Unit of a nursery for the production of seedlings. On 7 September 2018, CNVP Albania, as well as forest service and Federation specialists, monitored development of the nursery, and advised its staff. Started in spring 2018, the seedlings will be ready to plant in 2019. The municipality will plant willow seedlings on public property along the river banks on a short rotation of 5-7 years to produce firewood for use by schools in the Municipality. Some seedlings will be distributed to farmers for planting alongside agriculture land, roads, channels etc.

The model developed in Maliq Muncipality, Korca Region can be replicated in other Albanian municipalities (and elsewhere in the region) to develop sustainable management practices for renewable energy.

These activities have been supported through the Sida-funded project Forests for Local Economic Development that is being implemented by CNVP Albania.
